Jay Wiley is a 25+ year member of BHS and has sung baritone and tenor in several choruses and quartets. He has directed the Waterville Kennebec Valley Chordsmen, the Harmony, Inc. women’s chorus The Kennebells and the Brunswick Nor’easters Barbershop chorus. He has sung with the Back Bay Four quartet since its start in 2001. Jay currently sings with the Downeasters chorus and joined them on their first trip to the International stage in 2010, after which he spent a few years as an assistant director for the chorus before becoming our full-time directory in 2016. Jay is a design engineer for Southworth Products in Portland and enjoys flying radio control model airplanes and he’s also a licensed private pilot. His significant other is Kathy Greason (Kathy #1) who directs the Harmony Inc. Maine-ly Harmony chorus based in Gardiner. She is also a certified Music judge for Harmony, Inc. Jay has a son, Nathaniel who along with his wife Sarah have a son Elijah born in October 2012 and daughter Hannah born in September 2015.
Jay’s proudest moment was announcing from the Waterville afternoon show stage on October 6, 2012 that his grandson had been born moments before Back Bay Four had taken the stage. Jay’s father, Cliff Wiley, was in the audience along with other family members and they all rushed to the Brunswick medical center between shows to see his new grandson. Jay was delighted to be chosen as the new front line director for the Downeasters following the retirement of Jack Baggs at the end of the 2015 concert season. There has been overwhelming support and enthusiasm from the members and the music team and Jay is excited about starting a new adventure with the Downeasters.
